AuthorTalk with Rae Lindley!

Highlighting Cimmerian City .

Question: " What do you want other people to come away with after reading your book(s)? "

Lindley: "I'd love for people to come away with a sense of being entertained throughout the story and hopefully some themes that help them reflect on the world around them. I always thought that was the cool thing about writing that transcends all other mediums. The reader is personally right there with the story and sometimes takes the seat of the main character, making decisions and facing adversities in their place."

Question: " Do you have a target audience or do you prefer the audience “find” you? "

Lindley: "I always targeted science fiction and paranormal readers since I was young but the market has grown so much since then! Lately there are tons of subgenres not only in sci-fi but also fantasy and especially romance. I think if I chose one of these genres I fear I would miss out on a potential reader because they didn't fit within a preconceived notion. So I like to pick out the themes in my stories and try to attract the readers that would enjoy similar themes and mechanics within the story."

Question: " What genres do you prefer to write in? Do you read them, as well? "

Lindley: "I really like science fiction stories because there's so much opportunity for creating new worlds, species and other things to make the story interesting. At the same time you do have to be believable as any story and with sci-fi you can also use stories to parallel our own. I also like writing in suspense as well because of the page turning aspect. And of course romance. If I can put all these together or find a book that encompasses all of these, then I'll definitely be reading it like crazy!"

Question: "How long have you been writing?"

Lindley: "Hmm, about 17 years, technically. The reason I say technically is because I started when I was 10 but took a mini hiatus after my story was rejected, or declined by my first contest I entered."

Question: "Do you believe the medical corporations of America are more about business then medicine?"

Lindley: "I think it is more a business simply because the pharmaceutical companies have shareholders to answer to and also considering the cost of medicine is so high when it really doesn't have to be. In the recent years, I noticed the surge in new medicine which carries a ton of side effects which seem to do more harm than good and yet they're still being pushed on the market despite alternative methods of medicine that could be just as (or more helpful)."

"You can also tell by comparing the way medicine and patients are treated before the age of big business where you get house calls and personal treatment without the impediment of insurance policies back then."

Question: "What would you like readers to know most about your book?"

Lindley: "It's a futuristic, dystopic, paranormal, suspense novel that focuses on a lot of events going on currently: mega corporations in control of pharmaceuticals and government, mounting pollution in the skies, race wars and global business economy all in a speculative context. At the same time, it's also a coming of age novel since the heroine has a lot of growing up to do during the course of finding her true place in the world."
