Sylvia Drake enjoys a life full of simple pleasures in 1857. Her life in the rural Appalachian Mountains is routine, her home is stable and her dreams are big.

Sylvia tries to keep her head held high. She was spurned, but she'll survive. Dotia, her big sister is there to help her pick up the pieces and move on from that horrible moment. The hope does not last. Her sister soon starts acting different and Sylvia hates her for the negative change.
