Softly Set Us Free

When they're talking and laughing it all seems so cruel,
Who's really the genius? Who becomes the fool?
What fondest desire did you have to give up?
And why do you believe it's all because of love?
As we both are deceived and we challenge that doom,
Those skeletons are reaching for us as we’re reaching for the moon.

If they try to hold us down and cover our face,
We'll learn to scold them within this darkened place.
When we try to fight them, will we ever learn?
How many times must you play with fire to be burned?
With a blackened sense of emotion, I know they will call,
And in the stronghold of devotion, waiting for one to fall.
They're all singing in choruses, singing to me,
They'll lay down before us and set us free,
A dream is just a thought trapped in fantasy,
As they all fade before us and softly set us free...

If we dream of twisted images that hurt your mind,
Those seductively fatal pages of a book that's sure to bind,
Believe in me, my lovelorn, for your love is nothing else,
Your arrogant emotion that leaves me to doubt myself.
What is the human need that is merciless with prey,
When you are the only haunted one and you can only pray.
They're all singing in choruses, singing to me,
They'll lay down before us, and they will set us free,
A dream is just a thought forever bound to fantasy,
And they will fade before us...
And they will set us free...
